ViPS Jane Mendel Reading Day is a Great Success with Enhanced Push and Presence from Community Partners
The Little Rock School District ViPS Jane Mendel Reading Day was a hit with with hundreds of volunteers fanning out to all Little Rock School District elementary schools on Tuesday November 13th. In addition to guests sharing their love of reading and/or their favorite books with students, new community partners joined the reading effort in support of LRSD's Fall One District One Book initiative.
Partners for the fall campaign include: Southwest Power Pool, the Museum of Discovery, ARVEST Bank, and long-time partner Economics Arkansas. Representatives joined Superintendent Mike Poore to help introduce two books that are being read by K-2nd grade students: "Zoey Sassafras: Dragons and Marshmallows"; and 3rd-5th grade students: "Frank Einstein and the Electro Finger."
Thanks to the generosity off these partners, all 13,000 K-5 LRSD students received copies of the books and participated in a simultaneous launch of this fall's reading effort. Activities during the launch included skits, science experiments and shared reading opportunities.
Superintendent Poore and community partners distributed the new books at Fulbright Elementary on Tuesday November 13th
#LRSD1District1Book is designed to encourage the love of reading by families and promote financial literacy.
The Museum of Discovery's support of this effort also included hosting a culminating celebration over several days for students throughout the city.
