More than a Dozen LRSD Classroom Projects Benefit from
National Crowdfunding Effort

Congratulations are in order for some very lucky Little Rock School District (LRSD) teachers who found out this week that their classroom projects were among 35,000 to be fully funded thanks to California-based technology giant, Ripple  and the crowdfunding platform DonorsChoose.org. Ripple donated $29 million in support of educators across the country.

Fifteen projects, totaling $17,485, were funded for 10 LRSD teachers:

  • Ruthie Walls - Central
  • Karen Day - King
  • Jacqueline Scott - Mann
  • Karyna Johnson - Otter Creek
  • Kelly Baugher - Romine
  • Renada Burt - Gibbs
  • Kimeka Jacob-Williams - Mabelvale MS
  • Krystal Duckery - McClellan
  • Teresa Gilzow - Watson
  • Kristen Giggleman - Pulaski Heights MS

"I am so grateful," said Central High Social Studies teacher, Ruthie Walls. "I completed the application before Spring Break, knowing that we would be facing some stiff competition from teachers across the country with equally worthy requests. I was surprised and elated when I found out we would be among those selected. Thank you, Donorschoose.org and thank you, Ripple!"

Walls will use the funding to assist her students with a field trip to the National Civil Rights and Stax museums in Memphis, Tennessee to enhance their studies regarding the Civil Rights Movement's historical significance, as well as the role music played during that period.

According to founder, Charles Best, this is the first time in the 18-year history of DonorsChoose.org that a donor has funded every project on the site. The organization is celebrating the funding using the hashtag #BestSchoolDay. As new projects appear on DonorsChoose.org, donors can search for projects from LRSD by visiting www.donorschoose.org, clicking "Find a classroom to support," and typing in the local school or teacher name. Teachers can create a new project by visiting www.donorschoose.org/teachers.

About DonorsChoose.org

DonorsChoose.org is the leading platform for giving to public schools. Teachers across America use the site to create projects requesting resources their students need, and donors give to the projects that inspire them. Since its founding by a Bronx teacher in 2000, 3 million people and partners have given over $670 million to projects reaching 27 million students. Unique among education funding platforms, the DonorsChoose.org team vets each project request and ships resources directly to the school. Every donor receives photos of their project in action, thank-yous from the classroom, and a cost report showing how every dollar was spent.
