Chicot Primary School and Early Childhood Center's mission is "to provide a structured and supported learning atmosphere which will develop the needs of the whole child by fostering a safe, nurturing, highly accountable learning environment that will prepare students to become responsible, productive life long learners". Chicot serves approximately 800 three-year-old to 5th grade students with an experienced, caring, and dedicated staff. The school is located in the wonderful community of southwest Little Rock.
The elementary school is led under the direction of Principal Sherry Chambers and Assistant Principal Mildred Butler. The Principal/ECC Coordinator Donna Hall oversees the Early Childhood Center. The center has twelve classes of three and four year olds. The elementary side of the school hosts five kindergarten, four first grade, four second grade, four third grade, four fourth grade, and four fifth grade classes. All students in grades K-5 attend art, music, physical education, computer, media, and guidance classes.
The Tamara Nabors Parent Center:
The Parent Center has been renamed in order to honor a beloved staff member that passed away. Some of the many resources we offer are: books for check out, books with tapes, books to keep, parenting resource books, magazine, student's supplies, videos, school texts, computer access, and parent resources. It is the goal of Chicot Primary and ECC staff to work together with parents and members of the community to provide a quality educational experience for all students. There will be many opportunities for parents to be involved in their child's school experience and we look forward to working with each and every one. Come see what's in the Parent Center!
Reading Interventionist Teachers:
Reading interventionists work extensively with students to teach strategies and ehlp students improve specific reading skills such as letter-naming, initial sounds, phoneme segmentation, and comprehension strategies. Interventionists work with the teacher to design methods of learning that are most appropriate for each child. Reading Intervention Teachers specialize in providing second and third tier intervention for students.
Gifted & Talented Education:
The Gifted and Talented Program provides an educational environment for identified GT students that allows them to develop intellectually, socially, and emotionally. Outstanding achievement or the potential for outstanding achievement of each student is evidenced through an interaction of above average intellectual ability, task commitment, and creative ability. Students in Kindergarten and first grade attend G/T weekly. Identified students in second through fifth grade get G/T services weekly.
The Little Rock Junior League has donated school supplies to Chicot Primary School and the Early Childhood Center for your children to use in the classroom. There are still many items needed. Please pick up the school supply list from the school.
Chicot Elementary was opened in January of 1973. In 1982, Chicot became the home of students with moderate to severe handicaps. On October 13, 1994, the original building was nearly lost to fire. After major rebuilding efforts, the school was re-opened in March 1996.
